Curb-shopping JACKPOT!!!

Such great things to be found curbside! My hubby and I spent Friday night curb-shopping with my brother-in-law . . . it was their town's annual big trash pickup. We had soooo much fun scrounging for treasures, and we found four truck loads of goodies!

This vintage lace was among lots of old craft supplies I found.

I found two boxes of wooden hangers - one still perfectly
packaged with a shipping label to Abercrombie & Fitch

Pickets, spindles & table legs for future projects

Love these cute old signs!

Anyone know if this bed will strip well? I'd love to refinish
it for my son's room - it even came with the rails!

We even found some toys for the kiddies!

And last, but certainly not least - my strangest, most intriguing find . . . .

An old, black puppet wearing tap shoes!
Anybody know anything about old puppets?

  2. Great curbside finds! I love taking stuff out of people's trash.

That puppet might be worth something. I think that it qualifies as Black Americana which is very collectible.

  12. I CANNOT believe you found all those thing on the curb!
I need to find out when our city-wide trash day is!
Where did you put it all?
Yeah, that puppet is a little different.
He reminds me of those "Mammy" salt and pepper shakers.
    How fun!
I like digging through stuff, too!

  13. Where to put it all is a bit of a problem...some of it stayed at my sister's house until we can get it home, we took some of it to my dad to piddle with, my garage is packed, and some of it has spilled onto the driveway! I need to get this stuff organized!

  17. So neat! Great idea for recycling treasures! You found some great stuff. We found a tv/vcr set once in our neighbors trash and a baby doll cradle. It is amazing what people will throw away. I just found you and I love your blog.

  18. Hi, I am new to your blog and what an introduction it was. Did you ever score on your curb cruise! Your bed frame is very similar to one I have that my dad slept in as a kid - Jenny Lind Bed circa 1930. It is a collectable so check it out - here's a link to pic found on the web that sure looks like yours.. http://z.about.com/w/experts/Collectibles-General-Antiques-682/2008/03/Jenny-Lind-bed.jpg
and I am sure that the puppet is pretty rare as others have mentioned here. Do some research on it too before making any alterations to it. Good eye!!

  19. By the way, I had my bed frame refinished and it turned out fantastic. I had a pro do it as I am not into refinishing and all those intricate spindles were more than I was willing to take on!

  20. I got the exact same bed for my daughter at an antique store. Got it painted white.
